The challenge
Museum of the Home’s website needed to better reflect who they are and how they work today. While visitor numbers were growing, the site felt hard to navigate, text-heavy, and inaccessible for many users, especially when booking events or finding practical information.
The museum also runs a wide mix of events, from one-off talks and festivals to regular programmes and Museum Lates, which weren’t clearly presented online. On top of this, the team needed a more flexible CMS, clearer user journeys, and a site that could support accessibility standards, richer digital content, and long-term growth.

The solution
We started with an in-depth discovery phase, combining stakeholder workshops, audience research, SEO insight, and multiple rounds of internal and external user testing. This helped us rethink the site structure, simplify navigation, and design clearer journeys for key audiences like families, event bookers, schools, and volunteers.
Design and development focused on making the site easier to use and easier to manage. We streamlined the ticket booking journey, introduced clearer event templates for different event types, and translated the museum’s brand into a digital experience that feels welcoming, flexible, and accessible. A separate volunteer microsite was also created to safely manage volunteer activity while keeping the overall experience consistent.

The result
The new website makes it simpler for people to find events, book tickets, sign up for newsletters, and get involved with the museum.
Most importantly, the site now better reflects the museum’s values, giving space to diverse stories of home, and allows ongoing improvement through testing, iteration, and continued support.
