Using analytics to improve your website performance

Improve your website performance with analytics

Your website is central to your marketing efforts. As such, you invest time and money in it, with the hope that it will effectively communicate who you are and what you do, and provide value to your audience or customers. But as with almost all marketing activities, ensuring your website is ‘successful’ in achieving your business aims is an ongoing process. HdK’s webinar aims to teach you to measure how successful your website really is and use key analytics to optimise its performance.

During this free one-hour Zoom webinar with HdK, you will learn:

  • How to measure your website’s performance
  • Understanding where your audiences are coming from
  • How to monitor the success of your marketing campaigns/website improvements with Google Analytics

Throughout the webinar, we welcome questions from participants, and include a dedicated Q&A session at the end of the webinar.

How do I find the code in google analytics to add to my Weebly site?

We are WordPress specialists and not Weebly experts but to add GA to your Weebly site:

Navigate to Settings > SEO from the Site Builder. Paste the tracking code from Google Analytics into the Footer Code section. Click save and publish your site.

Is there a bulk way to make images smaller? Our website is very heavy with images (WordPress)

https://tinypng.com/ allows you to add in a group of images for compression if you are manually minifying your images. There are also plugin tools offered by CMS like WordPress to compress and cache images.

What is the best way to add videos to your website without increasing load time?

Serving the videos through Vimeo/YouTube will allow the video to ‘piggyback’ on the optimisations that those platforms use. For videos that have to be hosted on site, some examples could be: compress the video file, make the aspect ratio the same as the website design, remove the audio if it’s not needed.

What about CSS,
how is this site different from PageSpeed Insights?

CSS is a factor in development. We minify CSS files to reduce the CSS file size (reduce the whitespace, use recurring styling classes/templates). Browsers also have implicit caching built within them to improve load speeds.

PageSpeed insights is a similar tool to the Pingdom tool. It gives similar information but it’s focus is creating actionable information for developers when they audit a site

Can you please suggest a font that is best for speed?

Google fonts are great, the key thing is to try to remember to only use a small amount of unique fonts to try and get the desired effect

What is the “correct” (average) loading speed for a website?

Anything over 4 seconds consistent load speed should have a performance audit.

How can I know who visited my website from an email without using bitly links in signature
?

There are a few ways to measure the success of your email campaigns. For example, Mailchimp has its own open statistics that could bypass the need for bitly signatures.

Which tools should we use for heat maps?
